The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2008 to President Martti Ahtisaari, a board member of Elcoteq and former President of Finland, for his work on peace and reconciliation.
The Nobel committee commended President Ahtisaari for his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts. Through his untiring efforts and good results, he has shown what role mediation of various kinds can play in the conflict resolution internationally.
President Ahtisaari will receive the prize in Oslo on December 10, 2008.
